
ITP Aero expands Zamudio manufacturing facilities to support growing demand across commercial engine programmes

Investment will fund the largest research, technology and demonstrator programme in the company’s history, accelerating the development of critical technologies for future Next Generation Single Aisle (NGSA) aircraft and new defence programmes.
ITP Aero is launching the largest research, technology and demonstrator investment programme in its history, reinforcing its ambition to lead technology and be a key industrial partner for the next generation of aerospace propulsion systems.
Over the next four years (2027-2030), the company will invest more than €400 million in advanced propulsion technologies, demonstrator programmes and testing capabilities. The investment will accelerate the development and industrialisation of critical dual technologies for future propulsion systems, positioning ITP Aero to play a leading role in the propulsion systems that will power the next generation of single-aisle aircraft (NGSA) and new defence platforms.
Future NGSA programmes are expected to represent one of the most significant opportunities in commercial aviation over the coming decades, with around 40,000 new single-aisle aircraft expected between 2035-2055. As aircraft manufacturers evaluate future platform architectures capable of delivering step changes in efficiency, sustainability, operating economics and noise performance, ITP Aero is investing today to ensure it is at the forefront of the technologies that will make those aircraft possible.
To support this ambition, ITP Aero will undertake an extensive programme of technology demonstrators and testing activities, already supported by initiatives including the European Union’s Clean Aviation programme, Spanish and Basque technology programmes, and the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) in the United Kingdom. These investments will accelerate the maturity and industrial readiness of critical propulsion technologies for future commercial and defence platforms.
The programme spans a broad portfolio of breakthrough technologies. In high-speed turbine systems, ITP Aero is developing a new generation of aerodynamic, acoustic and structural solutions that increase efficiency and reduce weight, contributing around 25% of the fuel-burn improvement expected from the propulsion system in the NGSA, which is targeted at 15% overall, while also reducing emitted noise power by 50%.
For next-generation engine main structures, ITP Aero will combine its unique structural casting expertise and proprietary additive manufacturing capabilities in an integrated design and manufacturing approach. This vertical integration strategy, supported by digitalisation, AI and advanced simulation will enable significant weight reductions while maintaining durability, manufacturability and industrial scalability.
The announcement builds on a sustained period of investment and growth. Over the next four years, ITP Aero will double its investment in technology development, launching the most ambitious research, technology and demonstrators programme in the company’s history.
